APL Data Center and Telehouse join forces to renovate a data center dedicated to artificial intelligence

APL Data Center, a company specializing in consulting and design-build engineering for data centers, and Telehouse, world leader in high-connectivity IT hosting solutions, announce their collaboration on an ambitious retrofit project at the TH3 Paris Magny campus (Yvelines). This project marks a key step in the integration of innovative solutions to meet the growing needs of artificial intelligence (AI) platforms and intensive computing environments.

A strategic project for the future of digital infrastructures

As part of its €1 billion investment plan, Telehouse continues to expand its TH3 Paris Magny campus with a new 12,000 m² site offering a total electrical capacity of 18 megawatts.  The new building, at the heart of this project, will be equipped with the first direct liquid cooling (DLC) solution to be integrated into an existing infrastructure.

This project is emblematic of our commitment to meeting new technological challenges and the growing needs of our customers, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence. Integrating DLC into an existing building represents a major technical challenge, essential to guarantee optimum performance and increased energy efficiency“, explains Sami Slim, CEO France of Telehouse.

Technical challenges met through joint expertise

This retrofit project is being carried out on an existing infrastructure with major structural constraints and limited available surface area. The floor load required by this new DLC installation is a real constraint on the building’s existing structure. APL Data Center, with over 40 years’ expertise in data center engineering, was chosen to meet this challenge, which was linked to the initial design of the existing building.

“Integrating a DLC cooling system into an existing building is a major technical challenge. The solution designed by APL enables a major increase in cooling capacity in a constrained space to meet the requirements of infrastructures dedicated to AI, while improving the energy efficiency of the installation. We’re proud to be working with Telehouse on this innovative project,” says Robert Bouchard, President of APL Data Center.

An infrastructure designed for innovation and flexibility

The building will be equipped with an optimized cooling loop, with 80% of capacity provided by the DLC and 20% by conventional air-conditioning (scalable up to 90%/10% depending on customer requirements). The 138 m² IT room will accommodate 132 racks, with a density of up to 130 kW per rack.

By guaranteeing TIER III redundancy+ and optimum energy efficiency thanks to the use of Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) and free cooling, this infrastructure will meet the most demanding standards, particularly for IA platforms.
